Trojan defensive tackle Dontavius Russell shows off the jersey he was
presented to wear in the Under Armour High School All-America Game
in early January as his teammates congratulate him.

Russell, Newsome receive All-American honors

Trojans Dontavius Russell, defensive tackle and University of Georgia commit, and Tyler Newsome, place kicker, punter and Notre Dame commit, both were offered national all-American bowl opportunities in two separate events.

Russell was invited to play in the Under Armour High School All-America Game in early January, an event spotlighting the nation’s top high school seniors. National recruiting analysts and talent evaluators from ESPN Scouts, Inc., selected players for both team rosters. A total of 80 players were invited, with all them having the opportunity to also participate in a televised skills competition and other ancillary events held at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in the days prior to the game.

Newsome will participate in the Semper Fidelis All-American Football Bowl on Sunday, Jan. 5, in the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. The Semper Fidelis bowl is unique because it brings together 90 student-athletes from across the country who have demonstrated success both on and off the gridiron. Semper Fidelis All-Americans are selected for being among the top-rated high school football players in the nation; however, the selection process is also dedicated to choosing players based on their character, academic performance and leadership.

Jersey presentations were made to both bowl participants Nov. 6 in the Carrollton High School cafeteria.
